International Events in the Philippines To Watch Out For in 2017

The first few months of Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte have been some of the most colorful and eventful moments in the country’s history. This is probably the reason why the world is starting to take notice of the Filipino nation, resulting to several international events in the Philippines that locals and tourists are eagerly anticipating.

Without much further ado, here are some of the highly awaited international events in the Philippines that you need to mark in your calendars:

Miss Universe

January 30, 2017
SM Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay

Let’s start our list with something glam and gorgeous: Miss Universe 2016! The Philippines will play host to the world’s most popular international beauty pageant, close to 23 years after it was last held in the country.

It’s a fitting end to the reign of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, who will turn over the crown and make her final walk in her home country.

Wicked: The Musical

February 2 – March 5, 2017
The Theatre at Solaire

The gravity-defying musical returns to the Philippines this year! The first visit of Glinda and Elphaba to the country in 2014 was a resounding success, and the 2017 repeat performance will probably be just as spectacular.

ASEAN Summit

March – April 2017, and August 2017
Mactan and Clark

After more than ten years, the Philippines is once again set to host the ASEAN Summit, to be chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte. This year’s theme, “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World,” is perfectly aligned with the current administration’s battle cry for change.

It’s also a fantastic time for the country to chair this year’s summit, as ASEAN celebrates its 50th year of establishment this year.

The 30th ASEAN Summit will happen in Mactan, Cebu on March 2017, while the country will also host the 31st leg at the Clark Freeport Zone on August 2017.

Coldplay: A Head Full Of Dreams Tour

April 4, 2017

Pinoys went rabid in November 2016 as international hit band Coldplay announced their concert in the Philippines on April 2017. Fans trooped to social media to express their excitement over the event, and shock due to the ticket prices (which fetch as high as P22,500 for VIP seating).

Other International Events in the Philippines in 2017
