Ateneo de Davao University’s Swimming Pool and Rubberized Sports Track

I was in Ateneo de Davao University’s Matina campus yesterday for the community mass in honor of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus, whose feast day we celebrate today. After the mass, we went to see the new sports facilities in the campus — the swimming pool and the rubberized running track.

The swimming pool in the photo above is intended for the Grade School unit, and another one for the High School unit will soon be constructed.

While Ateneo de Davao has recently been giving special attention to its athletics program, now under athletics director Butch Ramirez (also former chairperson of the Philippine Sports Commission), university president Fr. Joel Tabora S.J. emphasized that AdDU’s primary goals have not changed and it is not interested in extreme performance of student-athletes. Rather, sports will be taken as “a means towards the integral human development of (the) students.”
