Globe's Global Filipino Teachers Program Now in Davao

Globe Telecom, fully committed to its mission of helping improve the education system in the country, is training public school teachers on how to effectively use ICT (information and communications technology) as an important tool in teaching through its Global Filipino Teachers program.

The program started in Visayas in 2009 and expanded to Luzon in 2010. Since its pilot year, GFT has trained teachers from North and South Luzon, Eastern Visayas and Northern Mindanao. This year, Globe launched GFT in the Davao region, with 25 teacher-participants from 18 public high schools.

Under the program, teachers go through a 54-hour, 6-day training program conducted by Globe Bridging Communities in partnership with the Coalition for Better Education and the Department of Education. The training aims to provide teachers the necessary skills to use ICT in classroom education, specifically in the areas of Math, Science, English and HeKaSi (Heyograpiya, Kasaysayan at Sibika).

Global Filipino Teachers program follows the company’s Internet in Schools Program (ISP), which offers free internet access through Globe Broadband to selected public schools. As a (part-time Engineering) teacher myself, I think this project is highly commendable. The use of ICT in education is no longer just important; it is already necessary.

With projects focusing on education, Globe is truly living its vision of “making great things possible.”
