Hukad sa Golden Cowrie: From Cebu to Abreeza Davao

Our Cebu experience has come full circle. It was exactly a year ago when we invaded Cebu, and witnessed the long queue in a posh Filipino restaurant named Hukad sa Golden Cowrie. And now, Hukad has reached Davao shores and aims to tickle Dabawenyo tastebuds.

Since Abreeza Mall opened last May 12, Hukad has been entertaining a long line of guests waiting to try their food. It took us about a week from its opening before we mustered enough patience to wait in line. Fortunately, it only took us about 5 minutes of waiting before they set up a table for Wifey and me.

The place was packed and busy, so we did not have the opportunity to appreciate the interiors of the place. But the restaurant looks like an upscale restaurant that serves reasonably-priced food. We ordered Pandan Chicken and Sizzling Sisig, complemented with unlimited rice.

We liked their version of the deep-fried chicken wrapped in pandan leaves, much like our love for Bangkok Wok’s version. The chicken was succulent, and the herbs and flavors infused perfectly into the juicy meat.

We found the Sizzling Sisig too spicy for our relatively innocent tongues. The first few morsels tasted good, but were later masked by a very spicy sting of chili. Whew! Lovers of pepper and insanely spicy hot food will definitely crave for this dish.

There are other mouthwatering selections on their menu, which we plan on trying out on our next visit. In the meantime, we give Hukad our kudos for successfully capturing Davao’s scrutinizing palate.

  3. We love Golden Cowrie of Cebu and this post reminds us to brave the perpetual lines at Hukad.

Kim is a sisig fanatic but afraid of spices so maybe we could ask for a milder one. Thanks for sharing!

    • You’re welcome, Kim and MJ. The last time we checked Abreeza, the lines weren’t long anymore. In fact, we were seated immediately after asking for a table. 🙂 Thanks for dropping by!

  4. We ate at Hukad, Abreeza Mall last night and it was a superb family dining experience for us! =) They have fantastic Lechon Kawali and Grilled Pork Belly. Unfortunately, we haven’t tried the Chicken Pandan but we look forward to be going back at Hukad to have a taste of it. =)
