Durian Grows Potential As Prime Philippine Export Product

Here’s good news for durian growers in Davao City.

The Department of Ariculture (DA) sees a big potential for a booming durian export industry. This exciting update was laid out by DA Agribusiness & Marketing Assistance Service Director Leandro Gazmin.

The Philippines ranks fifth in the world’s top durian exporters, next to India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Bangladesh. On a national perspective, Davao produces close to 80% of the total durian harvested, with the production volume and farm area increasing steadily.

At present, DA is helping the durian industry blossom through programs geared towards effective pest control and organic farming. The government arm aims to expand the market by 10 percent every year, including processed durian products.

Isn’t this a perfect time to have your own durian farm? 🙂
