This blog comes to life on the first day of March, a fitting welcome to the BIG event that will come our way in fifteen days.
The humongous event that I’m talking about is the 71st Araw Ng Dabaw. Held every 16th of March, the festival never fails to bring joy and jubilation to Dabawenyos and tourists, much like its sister event (Kadayawan in August).
This year’s theme is “Kasaysayan Balikan, Ihanda Kinabukasan.”
What makes this year special is the fact that Mayor Duterte is so eager to plan about it, that he decided to assign himself as chair of the executive committee! Read all about here, from the Mindanews pages.
This year, the celebration officially starts on March 14, although tons of activities and events are already lined up in order to prep us for the day. Check out a sampling of the things to save in your calendars, on this list taken from the official website of Araw ng Dabaw. Take note that the activities start as early as February! (Imagine my grin when I saw “80% discount sale” as one of the events in a famous mall here in Davao. I’m going to imagine yours too.)
Highlights of the festival include Datu Bago Awards, Banda Hudyaka, and Mutya ng Dabaw.
Street parties. Free concerts. Mallwide sale. Can hardly wait.
